It is like all high-end luxury hotels call themselves "trying the best to anticipate and meet guests' every need" (but everything is put on the bill as well!)

It is interesting to see that most of the lower to medium range hotels are now offering guests with free WiFi whereas many high-end luxury hotels are still charging for the internet usage. It makes sense - that the target markets are different, hotels charge more for price-insensitivity.

I personally think this mentality may work in the past, however, in today's economy, everyone (including high-end luxury travelers) is looking for better deals.

Now, what if some luxury hotels (in this case Peninsula Hong Kong) gave something away to their guests? For example, complimentary local/international calls and free WiFi? It is definitely an added value to the package and I am sure it would attract lots business travelers.

The Peninsula Hong Kong is spending US$58 million to refurbish its 300 guest rooms with new digital enhancement. This includes touch-screen panels (changing room settings such as languages and room modes), 3D TV, and most importantly, the hotel makes long distance calls (using VOIP) and WiFi complimentary.

Sounds very tempting right? I wonder how other hotels in the same market would react to this.
